Britisher asked:

The Swiss watch company, how is Tag Heuer pronounced? Please give me the transliteration for a British English speaker! Thanks.

Tag (T that sounds like “ta” with a declining “a”, then all of a sudden gutteral K) so don’t say TTTTT, say TA.. aa then K!

Heuer, Sounds like your saying hay, but wit an “o” and then a sudden upward “a” sounding sound jaja.

So Hoy-A, this depends on where you are in Germany.

because it’s Switzerland they might pronounce it differently, but the standard German sound still applies.

Heuer rhymes fairly close to “coyer” in RP.

Edit: “Hawyer” only sounds like “heuer” in parts of America. That reminds me of taking German classes in the South – people would say “ahn” for “ein.” It was pretty fricking hilarious to hear.

Edit again: I deleted the audio link because I finally got a chance to listen to it and it was recorded by some idiot who doesn’t know how to say it. Never trust the internet.
